Matt & I have always had a mutual love for travel. In having a long distance relationship for years, airports became like a 2nd home and we travelled often together while dating. We got engaged in Paris, married in Mexico and have traveled all over Europe, the Caribbean and the U.S. during the 5 years we’ve been married. We have loved seeing so many breathtaking, beautiful places but still, to this day, one of our favorite vacations, one of our favorite weeks spent anywhere in the world, was the week of our honeymoon.
It doesn’t stand out because we went to a 5 star luxury resort or because we cried at the view like I did when we arrived in Switzerland (although the gorgeous Caribbean sea and white sand beaches weren’t so shabby). It holds a special place in our hearts because it was a time just for us. We were starting this crazy wonderful adventure of marriage with a mix of so many emotions, hopes, fears and dreams. It was a week when time stopped and we simply allowed ourselves to celebrate, to revel in all that was before us.
While there is no denying, this girl loves an amazing wedding – the gorgeous details, the fantastic shoes, the amazing band, my advice is to always, always, always make room for the honeymoon. Even if it’s just a few days or a few hours drive away; it’s so worth it…having that time to just be together, to hold hands, to laugh, to dream, to look at each other and say “We’re Married!!!”
